The Bob Boyd Sounds Like Christmas Song list

List of Songs on the “Sounds Like Christmas” CD

1. “Jingle Bells” (Swing) “What fun it is to play and sing” this, the most rollicking and joyous of Christmas tunes!

2. “Away In A Manger/Do You Hear What I Hear?” (Slow Bossa) We change the time signature of this lovely old carol from 3/4 to 4/4 and style it as a bossa nova. Listen to the love in the tones of Pat’s trumpet.

3. “Rudoph The Red” ( Tango ) Our new arrangement of this popular standard often brings grins and chuckles.

4. “I'll Be Home For Christmas” (Ballad) Bob sings a standard treatment of a song reminiscent of the World War II soldier longing to be home with his family.

5. “Deck The Halls” ( Funky Fa La La) Here we go again, with David’s “funky” styling of another joyous, beloved old song.

6. “Silent Night/Quiet Evening” ( Carol with counter melody ) David wrote this plaintive countermelody, enhancing this beautifully simple song. Background vocals are by David, guest artists Paula Long, her daughter Angelyn Jolly and David’s son, Scott Higginbotham.

7. “God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen” ( A La Pink Panther ) As Bob Boyd was recording a solo piano album some years ago, he discovered this old carol melody sounded vaguely like Henry Mancini’s “Pink Panther” theme.

8. “All Those Christmas Cliches” (Ballad) This new, less-familiar tune is beloved by entertainers who spend their Christmas season traveling and playing for others.

9. “Santa Claus Is Coming To Town” A bluesy little version of a familiar kiddie’s tune.

10. “White Christmas” A standard treatment of the most recorded song of all time.

11. “Winter Wonderland” (Funky Winter Wonderland ) Probably the wildest departure from the “norm” of any of our tunes, this is another of David’s innovative ideas.

12. “Fireplace” (Ballad) Written by our own Randy McDonald, who plays drums and percussion, and sings backup vocals on this album. Randy did a masterful job of sound engineering on the entire project. We believe his original “Fireplace” is destined to become a Christmas standard. The lovely vocal is by guest artist Paula Long.
